There are many reason why the WNDC has picked the wombat to be its official mascot. For one, it is the power animal of one ditriech who just happens to be one of the charter members of the WNDC.

Also, the wombat is a pretty awesome animal. [taken from its Wikipedia Page]

Wombats are amoung the most graceful and majestic creatures in the animal kingdom. They are Australian marsupials and about 40 oz. inches long.
The only member of the animal kingdom other than humans to enjoy recreational drinking Vombatus Bibmus is renowned around the scientific community for its ability to retain its liqour and for the fact that it has no known natural predators.
They generally drink slowly, but when necessary they can drink over 7 beers in about 1 hour, all while singing along to their favorite songs.

The wombat was selected after an exhaustive look through all possible mascots and soundly defeated the Walleye in the final head to head matchup for WNDC Mascot.
